Where to buy Punch the monkey’s viral orangutan toy for £17.99

Trending 5 hours ago

An unlikely viral star, Punch the monkey has pulled on heartstrings around the world after the seven-month old Japanese macaque found solace in a soft toy, after being rejected by his mother.

Footage rapidly spread of Punch being bullied, dragged and thrown around by other monkeys in the enclosure, prompting zookeepers to give him the stuffed orangutan plushie as a surrogate parent. Turning to the toy for comfort, he’s been filmed wandering alone with the toy, hugging it and clutching it tightly. I’m not welling up, are you?

Born in July 2025, it’s been reported that Punch’s mother abandoned him at birth, impeding his chances of intrigrating with the monkey troop. Instead, he has been hand-reared by zookeepers and fed milk from a baby bottle, with only his plush toy for company.

Punch has attracted global attention, with videos of the monkey garnering millions of views, visitors to the Ichikawa City Zoo in Japan surging in February and the hashtag ‘HangInTherePunch’ trending online. The internet has become obsessed with Punch’s journey to acceptance in the troop – and a recent photo of the baby monkey appearing to have found a friend gave us the hope we all needed.

Fans have even tracked down his exact soft toy – Ikea’s Djungelskog orangutan plushie – and increased demand for it in stores around the world. In fact, the Scandi furniture giant has now donated stuffed animals to Punch’s zoo and launched its own sales campaign with the slogan: “Sometimes, familly is who we find along the way.”

Punch has casued the large plush toy to fly off both physical and online shelves, with the orangutan now listed on resale sites for triple the price. Though sold out in many stores across the UK, the toy can still be ordered online for £17.99 – here’s everything you need to know.
